Description
Up for auction is a flag from a friend, whose grandfather's brother brought home from Japan. It is signed by five American soldiers. I do not believe the Japanese symbols are names as some flags can be translated to. I think it is more of information relating to some type of arrival or commemoration in 1945, but I am not completely sure on that. I just know that it translated into some type of commemoration. This is an authentic Imperial Japanese Soldier's "Good Luck" battle flag, made of natural silk. Japanese soldiers often carried a couple of mementoes to bring them good luck. Most common, was an autographed flag. These were called hinomaru yosegaki in Japanese. It is good overall condition with minor soiling (overall nice color), and a few small tears, the main one going right down the middle but not all the way across the flag. It truly is a beautiful flag and historical item, particularly the gold corners and the silk material. It measures 42x28 inches. It has been folded and stored for many years. It can be ironed for framing. It's an unusual piece of history and absolutely guaranteed original. Thank you for looking and good luck with the bids.
