Description
Vintage x-ray tube, in good condition but with no wiring and with stains/fogging inside the glass, please see pictures for details.This tube is labeled "G. A. Bautze, X-Ray Tube Manufacturer, 1108 Boylston Street Boston Mass". This company was listed in a Boston business directory in 1922, and Gustav was a member of the MIT Chemistry faculty as a glassblower from 1931 to 1935.
Approximate dimensions (sorry in advance if my cathode/anode/anticathode terminology is off...)
Overall 21.5" end-to-end, width at widest point is 9"
Ball: 7" diameter
Cathode arm: 1-3/4" diameter
Anode arm (opposite the cathode) 1" diameter
Anticathode arm (45° from ball): 1-1/2" diameter at its widest, 1" diameter typical
Condition:
No chips/cracks/scratches
The exposed wiring is missing
The glass has a visible purple tint to it on the half that would have been exposed to the x-rays (lower right in first picture)
There is staining/fogging inside the glass, and rust/corrosion on the steel shields around the cathode & anode
The face of the cathode has a typical burn mark
